July
2008 saw the purchase of new and exciting software for the studio.
Upgrades to main recording platforms and a host of new plugins have raised the
quality and flexibility of our work. Much excitement at having new toys to
play with !!

RDMS
now includes video services.
It's
been on the cards for a long time and finally we are offering video services.
VHS
& BETA tape onto DVD.
Video/Audio
editing.
Video/Audio

Choosing
a studio.
Is price
important?
The hourly rate of a studio is usually a direct reflection of it's
experience and capabilities. If you pay $20/hour then chances are
you will get a lackluster recording. We charge more because of our
experience and track record. Something a room full of equipment and
expensive software can't
replace.
Is the studio size a priority?
Bigger
rooms cost more to service and therefore reflect on the hourly rate. If
you are a solo artist or member of a typical band that plans on tracking
separately then why are you paying for the extra space?
Do you want
a fixed price?
The
reality of a fixed price recording is that the clock is being watched in
order to make a reasonable return for the studio. This can often mean a
rushed final mix with disappointing results.
Our packages give you reasonable time to achieve good recordings, but
sometimes your instincts tell you to go further...
RDMS gives the option of extending your
time at a negotiated rate. |
Recording
it at home.
Software
and hardware is just getting cheaper and cheaper. The quality is good
and companies promise you professional recordings at home.
Sounds good but ask yourself this. If a hardware store told you that
"This hammer will give you the ability you to build a house as well
as a tradesman", would you believe him? Of course not! A hammer
can't give you the experience and skills that are required.
So why believe that software will do this for your music?
Art cannot be confined to a lot of presets and plug-ins. They are a
starting point, no more .....
Consider
this....
-If
you have the recording skills you may never reach for an EQ or
compressor.
-Great
sounding recording spaces have more impact on your sounds than any
plug-in.
-Quality
microphones and preamps are important tools. Using the right ones at the
right time with correct microphone placement is even more critical.
Moving a microphone 5mm can destroy a sound.
-A
good engineer will get better performances out of an artist through acquired
people skills. |
